Kindness

One attribute about Greg was his matter-of-fact kind demeanour. He always made time to converse with you no matter how pressured he was during his workload. I ran into Greg a few years back while he was on his bike something he seemed to enjoy as one of his favourite past times. We chatted for some time about his travels, his recent life stories and of course his work. One of my favourite stories he told us while we were on SAR was when he was taking a new seagoing vessel (salt water) from the east coast and with the deck being steel and the hull being fibreglass the vessel listed to port and starboard like a pendulum. He said at one point the crew were all at the wheelhouse and the vessel listed so hard to the left the crew slid to the portside window and nobody could get to the wheel to right it. So there they were traveling down the St. Lawrence River for about twenty minutes at the mercy of the vessel to right itself without any navigator. Not a proud moment for them but a funny story nonetheless. With this, I can only say he was a proud and diligent worker and exceptional in his trade. My condolences and heart goes out to his family for their loss and to his many friends he touched along the way. He will be surely missed.
