Peacefully at Baycrest Hospital, Bathurst Street, Toronto, on Tuesday June 21, 2016, in her 97th year. Beloved wife of late George Minion (2002) and loving mother of her three sons, Leslie (Michelle), William (Debra) and Gregory. Proud grandmother of Daniel (Ashley), Kelly Schubert, Michael (Kaila) Lauren and Liam. Great-grandmother to Benjamin, Logan and Grayson, and Maiah and Addison. Violet Johnston, the daughter of William and Isabella (Derring ) Johnston was born on September 16, 1919 in Leitrim, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and sister to five sisters and three brothers, Selina, Emma, Ida, John, Sam, ( Violet ) Anne, Edith and Jim. She was married to George Minion of Country Wicklow on September 19, 1945 and emigrated to Canada with their son Leslie where they lived in Saskatoon, where Will was born,and subsequently moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where Gregory was born. George and Violet moved to Burlington in the '70s where they enjoyed the community and made many new friends. After moving to Lakeshore they spent many hours walking along waterfront. Violet moved to Toronto’s Chartwell Gibson Residence in July of 2014 where she enjoyed a full day with many new friends and visitors both in her
own rooms and was able to host family and guests in the dining room for birthdays, family celebrations and Christmas dinners.and even was visited by her niece Isobel from Ireland. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 12:30 pm until time of Funeral Service at 1:30 pm in the Chapel. Interment at Burlington Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at the funeral home. For those who wish, donations in memory of Violet to The Salvation Army would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
