Great-grandfather of eleven great-grandchildren. Ivan was a veteran of the Canadian Army where he acquired his certification as a Master Mechanic. He had success and enjoyment during a long career with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications, retiring as Shop Foreman for the Stratford District. More importantly, Ivan was a gentle and caring man who always had a smile and twinkle in his eye for family, friends and strangers alike. Ivan’s parents, Spencer and Louise were role models; like them Ivan and his life partner Eileen became the heart and soul of their family which grew over the years to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merritt family reunions and parties were legendary and cherished. Ivan and Eileen where campers and motorcyclists. They and their network of friends and family crossed Canada and the United States several times. Ivan found ways to be close to all his family members including his brother Harold and wife Aileen and his sister Lenora and husband George; and they shared a special bond with his brother Don and his wife Kaye. Community service was also important to Ivan; he was a faithful and active contributor to the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and the Meals on Wheels program in Stratford. Ivan will be remembered as a kind and generous man, a prankster, and someone who was always able to find the good in everyone. Cremation has taken place.
