Yvonne Elsie “Grandma” Shura (Oct 21, 1924 – Aug 14, 2019) – A sweet soul has passed
Beloved wife to Paul (Poppa, recently deceased), the love of her life, for almost 65 years. Loving mother to Roxanne, Kevin, Darlene, Bryan and Jacquie and mother-in-law to Rob, Greg, Liliya and Peter. Also sweetest grandmother on the planet to Katy, Gillian, Cameron, David and Jeffrey.
We will forever treasure Grandma’s gentle touch and kindness. She will always be remembered for her great smile, her quirky stories, her love of family and her deep, lifelong faith. A former nurse by profession – one of the oldest surviving RNs in Canada – her warmth and caring was her gift to us all.
Grandma was the heart of our family. She loved her grandchildren completely and showered them with love and attention. She read them stories, did puzzles together, knit them blankets and made them their favourite foods. And, of course, she baked cookies and all kinds of good things with them. You’d be amazed at the things she could turn out in her little kitchen, where she was the queen for so many years.
A special thank you to Dr. Grzeslo who kept Grandma with us for so long. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to Kamila, who loved and cared for her like her own grandmother over these past few years. And our deepest thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Post Inn Village, Oakville, and to Ewelina, Eugenia and Melissa from Right at Home, who also helped her through her final years. We also deeply appreciate the compassionate care Mom received in her final days from the doctors and nurses at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital.
Grandma, you saw Poppa through to the end of his days. You’ve gone to be with him now in heaven. Rest in peace, Mom. Your work is done and we are forever grateful for the lasting gifts of your sweet spirit.

My mother saw this in the newspaper and told me. I'm so sorry to read that you've lost both parents in such a short space of time. Take comfort knowing that through faith in Christ our Saviour, they have eternal life with Him. "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" John 14:2

A couple months ago I emailed you at your business to let you know a bit about Mary Abell with whom I chatted, while at George's funeral. --Not sure if it ended up in Spam somewhere.

My condolences to the family, and particularly to Darlene. Darlene will remember me as a teacher of hers at Glenview and Tecumseh Public Schools in Burlington back in the late '60's, early '70's. I have only dim memories of Mrs. Shura - usually from across the table at parent/teacher conferences. May you each find peace & comfort in your remembrances, in one another and in your faith.
