Passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital on January 11, 2021 at the age of 86. Beloved husband for 60 years of the late Mary Strangways (2018). Loving father of Paul (Roberta Grosland), Chris (Yumiko Huang) and Anne (Cade Thomson). Doting grandfather to Megan (Carlos) Ribeiro, Adrienne (Kevin) Innes, Patrick (Meg McKenna) and Ava Lovell. Great grandfather to Devin Ribeiro. Loving uncle to Brad, Jeff (Wendy) and Terry Anthony. Predeceased by sister June Anthony (2015) and brother-in-law George Anthony (2014).
Bill was in the electronic representative business for his entire working career of 44 years. He began with A.C. Simmonds and Sons, then Lenbrook Industries and finally BIRDE Marketing that was established in the early 80s with Bill as President. Bill was known and respected in the industry for his clarity, compassion, knowledge and ethics.
Even more than his love of business, Bill's life revolved around his family and friends. He had many enduring friendships that began in the late 40s and early 50s at Parkdale Collegiate in Toronto (one of whom was Mary Pawluk, who married him). Several lifelong friendships started even earlier, including one when he was three. Our dad was particularly known for his sense of humour and positive attitude. He was also loved and respected for the way he treated his family, friends, his children's friends and all those who he encountered. Our mother and father cherished each other and made their homes warm and welcoming for all who gathered there in Toronto, then in Burlington and at the cottage on Lake Chandos. Our father was a founding member of the Metropolitan Bridge Club. He and my mother also enjoyed extensive travel with family and friends. He would say that he lived a wonderful life because he loved his career, friends and especially his family - treasuring the opportunity to see his children and grandchildren grow up and even have a wonderful relationship with his great grandson.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of The Williamsburg Retirement Home in Burlington for their superb care of our father - he was very happy and well looked after there for his last three years. Thanks for the excellent care at Joseph Brant Hospital and particularly to the superb care provided for years by Dr. Harpal Singh of Burlington.
There will be no celebration of life at this time due to Covid. In lieu of flowers, tell a joke, a humourous story or be kind to someone you love - that's what our father would have preferred. If you would like to make a donation in his name, we suggest a donation to an Alzheimer's charity or the Joseph Brant Hospital.
