Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Jennings

JENNINGS, William Charles “Bill”
Peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Lucie Jennings (nee Charron). Loving father of Marie deBoer (Michael), Esther Hunt (Tom), Carmelle Price (Colin), Colleen Mortimer (Spencer) and Paul Jennings (Sheridan). Cherished Papa of Jacob, Nicole, Wade, Aaron, Gabriel, Katelyn, William, Amanda, Thomas, Justine, Hannah, Mackenzie, Sophie and Emma. Dear brother of the late George (Joyce), the late Helen (the late Bob), the late Raymond (Clara), the late Muriel (the late Bob), Norma (the late Frank), Mary Ann (the late Alexe) and Florence (John). Bill will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, cousins and extended Jennings and Charron families. Bill was born in Central Butte, SK and was raised on the family homestead in Aquadell during the Great Depression. He was very proud of his rural upbringing which was strongly routed in family and faith. Music played a big part in the Jennings family; although Bill never learned to read music, he played the piano and guitar throughout his life. It gave him great pleasure to entertain “the seniors” in local nursing homes until recently when his health began to fail. As a teen, he attended Campion College in Regina and went on to Normal School and taught in one-room schoolhouses for 6 years before entering the business world. He had a successful career in the finance world which took him all over Western Canada. While in Edmonton in 1960, he met Lucie Charron and they were married in Sept. 1961 in Moose Jaw, SK. Road trips across Canada with a tent trailer were a significant part of the Jennings family life. In 1976, Bill was transferred from Regina to Toronto with the Royal Bank where Burlington became his final home. He was an active member of St. Raphael’s parish as well as Knights of Columbus – Council 5073 and a retired employee of the Royal Bank (after 25 years). Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 3-5 and 6-8p.m. Vigil prayers 6p.m. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church, 4072 New Street, Burlington on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11a.m. Reception to follow. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill to the Knights of Columbus Ontario Charities Foundation, Hamilton, ON.
