Obituary for William Bryce Leggatt

Just when the weather had finally turned warm and the Red Sox were on a winning streak, we lost our beautiful Bryce. William Bryce Leggatt, much loved only child of Bill and Thelma Leggatt, was born in Hamilton on October 10, 1941 and died peacefully on June 16th, 2021 of neuroendocrine cancer at Joseph Brant Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. Bryce was the loving husband and best friend of Barbara Seldon Leggatt. He was the loving father of Tyler Leggatt (Suzanne) and Lindsay Hewitt (Rob). He was the adoring Papa of Jane and Nora Hewitt and Findley, Isla and Cohen Leggatt. He will be missed by his cousins, Marilyn McKay and Craig Purvis. Bryce had a warm and generous spirit and he always saw the best in people. His unwavering optimism, good humour and sincere smile lit up every room he entered. He was a natural leader and he will be missed by his many good friends. He loved sunshine, beaches, warm climates and all things Boston. Bryce graduated from Hillpark High School in Hamilton and went on to McMaster University (BA, BPE), graduating in 1965. While there, he played football for the Marauders, was president of his senior class, and enjoyed many gatherings at Paddy Green’s. Bryce was a respected teacher, principal, coach and consultant with the Halton District School Board. He also enjoyed farming in Grey County and refereeing in the O.U.A.. Bryce was a talented athlete who excelled at many sports. In retirement, Bryce became a business owner, taught at D’Youville College, worked at Lowville Golf Club and grew his love of golf. Bryce was devoted to community service throughout his life, notably his work with Halton Adolescent Support Services, the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame, Elizabeth’s Concert of Hope and many aspects of Rotary.
A private funeral and internment will be held. Special thanks to the Acclaim Health home care nurses (Carrie, Kellie, Camille and Jane), injection nurse Jon and to Dr. Grzeslo. Heartfelt thanks to our many wonderful friends who helped along the way.
