Obituary for William "Bill" George Truscott

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of William George “Bill” Truscott on the morning of May 29, 2021, at his home in Burlington. Born in Sault Ste. Marie in 1942, Bill grew up in Toronto. Active in sports and scouting, he attended Runnymede Collegiate, graduating as valedictorian, before going to Princeton to take chemical engineering (and play hockey). He went on to get an MBA at McMaster and then a doctorate at Indiana University. He joined the business faculty at McMaster, enjoying brief stints teaching in Cuba and in England in the 1970s and in China in the 1980s. He eventually became dean and then took early retirement to enjoy the splendours of an ordinary life at home with his partner and their two dogs. He was a good father. He loved his grandchildren dearly and took great interest in their thoughts and activities. Family and friends will miss his sense of humour and down-to-earth sensibility.

Bill is survived by his partner and best friend of many years, Mary Lou Lascelles; by his son Mark (Lisa), and grandchildren Sam and Lucy; by his daughter Mary (Klavs), and granddaughter Maya; and by Nina Truscott, mother of his children.

As Bill requested, his body will be cremated and there will not be a memorial service. Donations in his honour are welcome at Mission Services or the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.
