Obituary for Virginia "Ginny" Elizabeth Silverthorne (Hyde)

SILVERTHORNE, Virginia Elizabeth
February 4, 1939 – August 3, 2019

It is with heartfelt sadness that our family announces the passing of Virginia “Ginny” Silverthorne. She was a loving mother to Daniel and Ian; best friend and sister to Nancy Gray; fun-loving, special aunt to Dana Harriss and Ginny and Alan Scott; and, devoted grandma to Emma and Scarlett. Ginny was predeceased by her wonderful husbands, Robert Silverthorne and Ross Zimmerman; her brother Daniel Hyde; and, granddaughter, Madeline Silverthorne. Ginny will be missed by her sister-in-law, Marg Hyde, as well as her extended family with whom she shared many happy days.

How would one describe Ginny? She was an original and a tenacious survivor. Family and friends had the special pleasure of enjoying her company, her compassion, her kindness, and her sense of fun. Disagreeing with some of her opinions always developed into a lively conversation. Ginny had an eye for colour and design and could transform the most ordinary space into a charming room. She had an imaginative eye for colour and design. When you remember dear Ginny, smile and think about lilacs, lily-of-the-valley, and the roses she “seemed to find everywhere”¬¬–– think about good times and unexpected adventures.

In keeping with Ginny’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, August 8 from 12-1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Please bring your memories to share. Ginny would be pleased if memorial donations could be made, in her name, to Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Mental Health Unit.
