Obituary for Tim Hogan

How do you describe a man who meant the world to so many, born in Toronto almost 84 years ago, he lived life to the fullest and has left many hearts broken by his passing. His long, long list of friends goes back to high school including both Etobicoke Collegiate and Royal York Collegiate Tim then went on to graduate from Christ the King’s College at Western University in London where he would tell numerous and proud stories of being the 'Deeky' running back on the Western Mustang Football Team where he would proudly don his Number 26 Football Jersey. He had the same number at both high schools before.

After University he married Gail Murdoch and began his work career firstly with Traders Finance in Toronto, then he joined his Father in the Car business and therein starts the beginning of many more memories and stories! He was successful in all he put his energies towards. He was a Ford Dealer, a Toyota Dealer, a General Motors Dealer and finally his favourite was Garden Motorcar Mercedes Benz in Burlington where he successfully ran it with his wife Debbie and two of his children, Michael and Kelly.

Tim wasn't just 'Tim' he was more then that to all he knew including Timmy, Dad, Daddio, Pops, Grampa, Timbo, Hoats, Mr H, Father Time, The Elder and affectionately "horse's ass"! The proudest of course was Dad and Grampa. Words cannot describe the hole in the hearts of his children Kelly (Darrin), Michael (Karen), Marc, Amy (Jay) and grandchildren Riley, Kenzie, Jack, Kelty, Georgia, Summer, Caitlyn, Charlotte, and step grandchildren Becca and Travis. He was known as Grampa to his nephews Stephen and Kevin. He was a true patriarch to his Hogan clan, all learned so very much from his knowledge and experience. He will be sorely missed by his sisters Linda (Des) Ellard, Kathy (Jim) Duschl, his sister-in-law Anne Welch and his many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Leona Hogan, his sister Joan Griffin and his brother Ainslie Hogan.

He was an active man and young for his age, many would try to keep up to him and some referred to him as Benjamin Button as he was aging backwards. In his 84th year he was proud to have handily won his flight on the golf course by shooting TWO rounds of golf under his age at one of his happy places, Vasari.

Timmy spent the last 36 years of his life with the love of his life, his best friend, partner, soul mate Debbie (nee Welch). They loved the outdoors, travelled the world, they played golf, tennis, squash, scuba dived, and skied. Since retirement in 2006, Tim and Debbie happily have settled into their 2 'happy places'. Vasari in Bonita Springs, Florida where they've developed a second family, their 'home away from home', and Pinestone on Lake Joe in Muskoka. Married is an understatement, the two were magic. Real "glass half full' kind of people. A lunch got better, a dinner party got louder, and any time you saw a group of people gathering you knew it was around the two of them. Tim stood telling a story larger than life, his sweetheart planted beside him, looking up with awe and tears of laughter in her eyes.

Words fall inadequate to describe a man larger than life to so many. How do you encapsulate the uncapturable? The rare and elusive essence and celebrity of Tim Hogan. The leader of our pack and as bright as the sun, he was the center of our Hogan universe.

That's one hell of a legacy.

There will be a private family service followed by a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Canadian Lung Association or a Charity of your Choice would be greatly appreciated.
