ORR, Stanley Howard

Passed away in the early hours of August 17th, 2019 at Carpenter Hospice, Burlington. Second of four children to Gordon and Florence Orr, Stan got a taste of travel and adventure in the 4H Club of Binscarth, Manitoba. After joining the Royal Bank in 1954, he made his way to Owen Sound, Ontario and found the Joy of his life. Together, they collected lifelong friends throughout Southern Ontario, settling in Burlington, where Stan retired in 1992 as an Area Manager. Stan enjoyed golf, curling, good friends and good spirits. He will be sadly missed by brother Jim, children Christine Shaw (Jeff) and Mark Orr (Maxine). Gone too soon for grandchildren Scott Shaw (Ali), Ben Shaw (Julia), Robert Shaw, Kayla Orr and Daniel Orr. Life wasn’t the same for you without Joy. It won’t be the same for us without you, Dad. In keeping with Stan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 12-1 p.m. with a Service of Remembrance at 1 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke and the Carpenter Hospice would be appreciated.

Stan was a wonderful life-long friend of my late dad, Don Ross, a fellow Manitoban, curling teammate and golf buddy. I won't forget Stan's wonderful friendship and support to him when he needed it most, and to me also, sitting with me when I was by myself during the last days and checking in on us afterwards, always with a kind memory to share. I miss seeing Stan down on Lakeshore, or him popping by our nearby house to say hello. I'm betting Stan and Dad are up to hijinks already, and surely are having a beer and a round of golf. Rest in peace kind man, and condolences to his lovely family.

I want to give me condolences to Christine, Mark & the whole family. Stan was always such a cheerful man & shared lots of stories with us at the dialysis centre. We enjoyed his golf & curling tales. It was such a difficult time for Stan when his beloved Joy passed from this earth. Remember all the good times.

So kind of you to share memories of our Dad. You and the staff at Burlington dialysis make a huge difference in so many lives.

Mr. Orr was passionate about his golf, loved the sport and was invested in the people he played with. The same could be said of his curling. BGCC was his home away from home and we are all better for knowing him. He religiously made time to stop by my office and chat and I am very grateful for those conversations and the effort he made to continue when getting around became difficult.

He was an active, engaging and wonderful person. A true gentleman. I will miss him terribly.

Thanks, Tami. You were always a favourite of our Dad’s. We have fond memories of dinners at BG&CC. So many great times for our Dad and close friends that made his life rich.
