Sophia, who was born in Parthenion, Tripoleos, Arcadias, Greece and immigrated to Canada when she was 16 years old. Her long journey across the Atlantic Ocean landed her in Halifax, NS and she took the train across Canada to Kitimat, BC where she joined her brothers and sister. Sophia came to this country with very little and with no knowledge of the English language but embraced the culture while maintaining her heritage in this new land. She found her place in Vancouver, BC where she met and married the late Pericles Zorbas. Their journey continued in Edmonton, AB and together they built a life there. They raised their 3 sons (George, Steve and Peter) and forged many lasting friendships. After 20 years the family moved to Hamilton, ON. Sophia and Pericles were true entrepreneurs and opened Reddi-Chef (famous for their wedge fries). Their 3 sons graduated from McMaster University and have successful careers and lives of their own with their wives and children.

Sophia’s life centered around her family. She loved being a grandmother “Yiayia” to her 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In her spare time, she volunteered at the St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society where she made an impact on the Greek community. Sophia also loved to cook, bake, barbecue, garden and she enjoyed going for her daily walks. Sophia’s memory and legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
