I am saddened to read of your father's passing Christopher. When I think of Songying I picture the strong silent type man who stood ever so gentlemanly within arms reach of Manli as we chit chatted at the Y. I've thought of both your mom and dad since we spoke in September, certain your mom's soul is resting peacefully and gracefully as she was and wondered how your dad was managing....apart for a very brief time and now together forever they will be. I will pray for courage and strength for you and your family as you grieve your loss and will pray that your cherished memories are never forgotten and continue to comfort you always. I thank you for my will now remind me of both your mom and dad 'together' Mes plus sincères condoléances

I had the privilege of doing business with Mr. Xu from 1985 to 1994 when he was the chief engineer of Shanghai Electric and I was working for an American company. We had entered into a technology transfer agreement and we would communicate with each other at least once a week by fax. I was totally impressed by his intellect and attention to detail. He was always pleasant to work with and had a good understanding of the outside world which was rather unusual in those days. He led his engineers to America for training several times during those eight years and I also brought engineers to Shanghai to work with his staff several times. We became friends and I had great respect of him.

Songying Xu, I got your name when I started working in R&D engineering department of Shanghai Electric Welding Machine Works in 1982, and people used to call you "Xu Zong" as a nickname for "Chief Engineer" in Chinese full of respect. Since then we had more time to communicate regarding new machine development for the growth of market demands, and services for special material joining in the aerospace industry. More often we worked together for the JV Shanghai Medar set up and on smoothing Medar controls with local transformer and power semiconductor devices integration, these projects performed high output for SVW and GM automobile makers in China. All in all what you leave me in my heart, is just like a professor, eldership or father with professional, profound knowledge friendly, that empower us younger engineer got matured. I also remember we were working together in Detroit for GM Shanghai project, as well as visit Medar after left Medar for Emerson Electric... in the summer of 2013 Manli and you drove so long distance and visited me in my brother’s house, Richmond Hill Toronto, we had a very pleasure to talk on updated Medar Shanghai situation, and also in summer 2015, I visited you and hear from you further on the welding industry, challenges and advantageous we may have, even though you were not so convenient to walk and down stairs, but you still full of brightness and enthusiasm to my family, It's really good time we stay and chat each other.
Songying, what you left behind will be deeply remembered by whom once we were together...
