Obituary

Silvia Aurora Derat (nee Treviño) passed away peacefully after brief hospitalization on May 8, 2020 with her daughter by her side. A retired school teacher, Silvia lived a life dedicated to her students, family and laughter. She loved to play the piano, enjoy nature and cook. She was 73 years old. She leaves behind the love of her life, J.L. Derat (aka “Beto”), who always ensured she felt happiness and love. She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (and Jim), Lindsay (and Ian) and her cherished grandchildren, Pilar and Lochlan. Loving sister of Gloria, Romelia, Argelia, Leticia, Amilcar, Cristian, Roldan, Iscandar and Bruni; and daughter to Aurora and Manuel of Monterrey, Mexico. Loving aunt to Sigfrido, Delfin, Vivian and Xavier, Alicia and Christina, Sonia, Kevin and Stefan.

Silvia believed living life “in the now”. She enjoyed simplicity and was non-judgmental. She was kind hearted and her spirit will live on in all of us. We miss and love her and look forward to getting together as a family to celebrate what we have lost.

Dear Mom, The kids have wonderful memories of you when they were younger. Family was so important to you and you always made the trip to visit us. We know life was not always easy for you but you enjoyed life to the fullest and we will always remember you for that. We know your light is shining down upon us. Love, Leslie, Jim, Pilar and Lochlan

I remember Silvia as always a happy person. Her eyes lit up when she saw her children and grandchildren. She loved talking about them. When I asked about her teaching she always spoke so well of her students. When she came to my daughter’s baptism I saw her eyes light up the same way when she saw her own kids. She left her mark in this earth and will be deeply missed.

When I think of my aunt Silvia, I see a smile, I hear a laugh full of loving energy and excitement. I know life was not always a happy haven but she was always eager and so delighted to spend time with her family. She seemed so fulfilled and joyful to have members of her family by her side! She and Beto often welcomed us in their home for lovely meals, at Christmas, Easter or any time of the year, so the cousins and second cousins would get to spend time together. Those moments made her beam with happiness. Thank you Silvia for bringing us together and reminding us of the power of family connection! Our warmest thoughts of love and support go out to you Beto, Lindsay and Ian, Leslie, Jim, Pilar and Lochlan.
