Obituary for Sandra "Sandi" Marlene Carbin

A loving wife, mother, sister, and friend

Sandi is now at peace, pain-free, and rejoicing with God's angels after a four-year battle with dementia. On the evening of Wednesday, April 27, 2022, she gave away her last breath from a medical issue in the emergency room (ER) at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario, five days short of her 69th birthday.

Surviving is her devoted husband, Clifton of Ontario, deeply loving daughter, Carley (Grace) of California, caring brother, Eric ("Ric") of British Columbia, and a playful family Pomapoo, Monroe. Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Jack (1995) and Lil (2001) Jenkins, and her sister, Jo-Ann (2019).

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Sandi was the middle child. She grew up and attended Winslow Secondary School in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

On October 29, 1977, Sandi married her husband, Clifton, in the small historic chapel on the grounds of Minoru Park in Richmond, British Columbia. In 1991, they moved to Burlington, Ontario, with their only child Carley. Sandi worked for the Halton District School Board as an educational and instructional assistant at Brant Hills Public School, Dr. Charles Best Public School, Champlain Public School, and Frontenac Public School until her retirement in January 2019.

Sandi touched many people with a unique sense of humour and witty sarcasm. She was generous to a fault and shared her joyfulness and vitality with everyone she met.

There will be no immediate funeral or memorial service. Instead, the family will announce a small private, by-invitation-only service at a later date. In keeping with her wishes, Sandi chose cremation.

Thanks to all Professional Support Workers (PSWs) from Acclaim Health and Paramed who came to our house to care for Sandi until her recent admission into a nursing home in mid-March. Further gratitude goes to Dr. Monika Schwab-Lang, Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), Acclaim Health-Burlington Adult Day Program, Alzheimer Society of Hamilton Halton (Burlington Branch), and the fantastic staff at CAMA Woodlands Long-Term Care Home for their exceptional and compassionate care. Special thanks to all ER doctors and nursing staff at Joseph Brant Hospital who went above and beyond to make Sandi comfortable in the last hours of her life.

In lieu of flowers, you may send your donations in Sandi's memory to your local Alzheimer's Society or CAMA Woodlands Long-Term Care Home at 159 Panin Road, Burlington, ON L7P 5A6.
