Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Ruth Johnson (nee Dunnigan) at the age of 73. She died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Sandra will be lovingly remembered by Bob, her husband of 51 years, and their children Julie (Gregg), Laura (Peter), Rob (Barb). Sandy will also be sadly missed by grandchildren Nikola, Ryan, George, Amy, Madison and Zach. Beloved sister of Dan (Marg), the late Dave, and brother-in-law, Ed (late Sue). She shared a special bond with her Aunt Marilyn and cousin Melanie. Sandy was a passionate and dedicated nurse at Hamilton General Hospital for 40 years. She was a cherished member of her sorority Beta Sigma Phi and CGIT. She was known for her kind, caring and compassionate nature. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Special thank you to Dr. Wasi and the team at Juravinski Hospital, and all of the homecare staff, who provided incredible care and support with special thanks to nurse Ashley.

It is with both sadness and gratitude that I write this note. Anne Marie and I send our condolences to Bob, Julie, Laura, Rob and their families who will miss the joy that Sandy brought to their many family gatherings. As the matriarch of her family, Sandy doted on all of her grandchildren. Her caring and considerate personality sprinkled with frequent smiles and laughter extended to all of her family and friends. Her talent and love for baking and making desserts was enjoyed by everyone. I will always remember her delicious, legendary butter tarts! Her giving personality extended to a recipe for her many life-long friendships. My first wife Yvonne and Sandy became best friends in high-school which developed into a close relationship during their adult years. I believe that Sandy’s passing on Yvonne’s birthday was not just a coincidence. No doubt, she was greeted in heaven by her dear friend Yvonne who passed away 23 years earlier. I am thankful to have known Sandy for over 57 years as a dear friend also. Anne Marie worked with Sandy in nursing and became a very good friend of hers for over 25 years. We will be among many people who will miss her deeply. With our love, Anne Marie and Andy
