Obituary for Ruth Halpern (Loeffler)

After a long and eventful life, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021, in her 95th year.

Predeceased by her dear husband of 58 years, Harry Halpern (1917-2003). Cherished mother of Sylvia Young and her recently departed son-in-law Bob Young who both cared for her with love and compassion over many years.
Loving and proud grandmother of Kara Heald and her husband Andrew, and an adored great-grandmother to Katie and Emily. Dearly loved sister and aunt to the late Gerda Jandera and Eva Powitz. She will also be greatly missed by all of her friends that are like family.

Ruth was born in Bielsko, Poland in 1926 to Solomon and Valerie Loeffler. Her family escaped occupied Poland and survived a WWII Soviet work camp in Siberia. Ruth was part of the group of Polish children (the Tehran Children) who were evacuated from Russia to Palestine in 1943. After living in Tel Aviv and Cyprus, Ruth, her husband and daughter immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s and had a long and happy life in Hamilton, Ontario. Ruth always had a twinkle in her bright blue eyes and a great story to tell. She has left her family with wonderful memories, stories and lessons to pass to future generations.

A special thank you to the Bayshore personal support workers and to the staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton for their care and compassion. As per Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be interred with her dear husband Harry. For those who wish, donations in memory of Ruth to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton Foundation would be sincerely appreciated.
