Obituary for Ronald Talmadge MacElwee

MacElwee, Ronald Talmadge

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Chester Village Long Term Care Home, Scarborough, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Verna (nee Harding). Loving father of Leslie MacElwee of Toronto, Andrea MacElwee (James Selfe) of Montreal and Cynthia Jakubec of Guelph. Cherished grandfather of Colin and Erika. Predeceased by his siblings, Judy Miller (Tom) and John MacElwee (the late Andea). The extended family is enriched by nieces and nephews, cousins and a dear circle of wonderful friends.

Originally from Timmins, Ontario, Ronald graduated from Queens University and practiced his profession as a chemical engineer in Montreal, Toronto and beyond, contributing to many innovative and ecological initiatives throughout his long and fruitful career. He settled in Burlington, Ontario, with Verna, enjoying his later years in close proximity to grandchildren and extended family.

Ron enjoyed get-togethers with family, friends and neighbours. Considered by all to be a gentle and peaceful man, he was committed to his community. He will be fondly remembered.

A private service will take place at Appleby United Church, Burlington, followed by enichement at Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton on June 23, 2021. A memorial celebration will occur when family and friends can gather safely.

The last ten years of Ron’s life were lived at Chester Village. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the management and staff for their exceptional care and compassion. If desired, memorial contributions to Chester Village, would be appreciated by the family.
