Obituary for Ronald James "Army" Armstrong

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ronald James Armstrong "Army" on the morning of Thursday, September 29th, 2022, at Joseph Brant Hospital. Army began his adventurous life in the balmy town of Whitehorse, Yukon. Born on September 23rd, 1947 to his doting parents Lester and Gladys Armstrong. Ron competed in high level athletics and had a hunger for travel throughout his entire childhood, which eventually led to him landing a teaching position at the University of Toronto. This allowed him to not only carry on but also pass on his passion for education. Ron was beloved by many teachers and students at Thomas A. Blakelock High School, a consulate coach, teacher, father and friend. This is carried out into the community as well. Ron loved and believed in all the power of minor sports and provided support wherever possible and usually on his own dime. Constantly a student himself. Ron was always expanding his portfolio of hobbies. Becoming a master woodworker, coaching every sport, nautical guru, fishing expert, a second to none athletic knowledge. Ron taught us the importance and necessity for pride in hard work, respect from our community and that no amount of money could buy a second of time. Ron is survived by his sons Aaron Armstrong of Calgary, and Adam (Caitlyn) Price of Calgary. Proud grandfather to Ara, Cyrus and Addison. As per Ron's wishes, and that of his family, a private cremation has taken place. Memorial gathering at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Tuesday October 11, 2022 from 4-7pm. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to KidSport Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Please go to www.smithsfh.com to sign the online book of condolences.
