Roger Gilles Joseph Brabant
BRABANT, Roger Gilles, on November 26, 2017, at the age of 89 years following a brief illness. Survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Lois (nee Moore) and by his sister, Delores Sapinski. Roger’s other siblings and first wife, Blanche (nee Ross) predeceased him. Roger was born and raised in Timmins; he came south where he commenced his newspaper career with the Thompson chain; he went on to found Brabant Newspapers Ltd. which operated the following mastheads in the Greater Hamilton Area for several years: Mountain News, Stoney Creek News, Ancaster News, Dundas Star, Flamborough News and the Real Estate News. His community service purpose in operating these papers was encapsulated in his slogan, “The Good News Papers.” After the sale of his company in 1987, Roger personally funded The Brabant Foundation which has supported Hamilton and Burlington area charities for the past several years. In this endeavour, he was ably assisted by his wife Lois.
