To the Dean family. My deepest sympathy on the sudden passing of Robert (Rob). Heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.
Rob was a quiet man and the funniest person I have ever met. He was kind, sensitive and had a deep faith and respect for all things. Rob will be missed, but never forgotten. I came to know Robert in Hamilton thru his lasting friendship with Kerry Trebley. Rest In Peace, until we all meet again!

And now faith, hope, and love abide. These three; and the greatest of these is love.

I have known and been friends with Rob for over fifty something years. I first met Rob at Plains Road Public School in East York we were practically neighbours, he lived the next street over from me. Over the years we had many adventures together and many laughs. Just recently as of Friday, May 22, 2020 we were planning for me to come up to Hamilton to celebrate his Birthday on June 7, 2020. I shall deeply miss my old and dear friend Rob. I am filled with a deep sense of sadness on learning of his passing. I feel a great sense of loss of a major part of my life that he was and always will be a part of as do I know a lot of you his family and other friends. I shall miss the many conversations and laughs we used to have over the telephone till all hours of the evening. This life seems empty without having my friend here now. I hope and pray that someday I will meet you in Heaven. Rob and I would go to many movies over the years and used to ride our bikes a lot during the summer months in our teen years. Rob was always a good and kind person. He truly was the person who would go to great lengths to help others as he did for me many times. I always considered him to be not only my best friend but my brother that I never had and I think he considered me to be the same. I feel a great sense of loss and shock about his passing as I write this. In a world where friends come and go, he was a real true friend of mine. The genuine article, the real deal, best of the best as evidenced by our friendship of over fifty years. Rob, I shall miss you my friend and brother! You are always in my thoughts and prayers! I would like to take this time to also extend my heartfelt condolences to all of Rob's family and friends. I know the pain of this and pray that God will help you to get thru all pain and sorrow. Rob, I miss you so much and I love you my friend and brother! Rest In Peace! Kerry Trebley

I met Robert at James Street Baptist church, where Robert often helped out. I remember doing "security" with him and John Smith at the doors during a summer VBS. Robert and I attended the first of several sporting events when John offered us a pair of TiCats tickets. Eventually, Robert became my go-to option when looking for someone beyond my family to go to an event. He was always good company.
We started playing chess weekly after my classes were over in the downtown school where I teach. Robert was a student of the game. My chess game was rusty at first. Robert taught me a few moves and in time we were well matched. We would often keep a running tally of how many games winning streak either of us had going. We never got above six wins in a row before the other person would start a winning streak of their own. We used to laugh about how when Rob has hospitalized from breaking his hip and on strong pain medication we tried to keep up with our games. Unfortunately under the influence of his meds, his pieces made some moves that were not quite within the rules of the game.
I will miss Robert greatly and wish to express my condolences to his other friends and family.
