Obituary for Robert Bedford Baker

BAKER, Robert Bedford

It is with heavy hearts, the family of Robert “Bob’’ Baker is sad to announce his passing on Sunday June 5, 2022, one month prior to his 82nd birthday. Bob died at home peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family. Left to mourn him are his beloved wife of over 56 years Marilyn, daughter Karen (Steve Mowder), son Robert (Noeleen Gibbons), and granddaughters Devin and Deirann.

Bob was born to Arthur and Carrie Baker (both deceased) in Finch Ontario on July 5th, 1940. Also left to mourn him are sister Anne (Hank deceased), brother Wayne (Sheila), sister-in-law Patricia, sister-in-law Joan (Conrad), and their families.

Bob grew up in the Lyn area, attending high school in Brockville Ontario, before graduating from Waterloo University with his BSc and MSc in Engineering, and later earning his P.Eng standing. He married Marilyn in 1965 and subsequently had children Karen and Rob. Bob and Marilyn spent forty years in Port Perry, before moving to Burlington four years ago to be closer to their family.

The weddings of Karen and Steve and Rob and Noeleen, both in 2003 were highlights in his life. While he had many titles in his storied, professional career, he was most proud of the title “Papa”, bestowed on him with the birth of granddaughters Devin in 2005 and Deirann in 2007.

Bob began his career at Ontario Water Resources. He joined the engineering firm of Totten Sims and Hubicki (TSH) in 1968 where he remained until retirement. During his tenure, he made a difference throughout communities across Ontario and as far away as Indonesia. Just before his retirement, he was instrumental in facilitating the sale of TSH to AECOM.

Travelling and golfing were two of Bob’s passions, although being with family and friends was what he enjoyed most.

Burial has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Halton. For further information, please contact a family member or Smith’s Funeral Home, Burlington, Ontario.

A celebration of his life will be held at Honsberger Estate on July 29 from 1-5 PM. The venue is located at 4060 Jordan Road, just off the QEW.
