Obituary for Peter Ludwig von der Marwitz

In Memory of Peter von der Marwitz
Passed away in Burlington, Ontario on July 26th in his 88th year. Peter von der Marwitz, predeceased by his beloved wife of 23 years, Marina von der Marwitz. Son of the late Georg Alexander and Dorothea (von Dechend) von derMarwitz of Germany. Predeceased by his four older siblings Sibylle, Alexandra, Hans-Guenther, and Georg-Hildebrand.
He will surely be remembered by friends, relatives, members of the CBIAS, and those whose lives he touched.
Born in Gross Rietz, Germany on April 25th, 1933, Peter emigrated to his adopted country of Canada in 1955. With limited English, money, and education, Peter worked diligently to adapt to his new surroundings. His determination and relentless self-education eventually led to a career in computer programming. He married his first wife, Eve (King) in 1959 and they lived for many years in Mississauga, Ontario. In 1988, Peter moved to Huntsville, Ontario and started his own computer consulting firm. In 1995, Peter married Marina (Fricke) and together they owned and operated a Bed & Breakfast and cabin rental business. Peter also assisted Marina with her stone sculpture artwork by designing drills and leverage systems and carrying rocks out of the ice-cold waters of Lake Superior. Peter never shied away from a challenge and was always ready to help anyone in need. After Marina's death in March 2019, Peter moved to a retirement home in Huntsville and later that year to a nursing home in Burlington.
Peter played a large and important part in the lives of Marina's children (Roma, Rita, Charlie, and Thomas) and their families. We wish to extend heartfelt thanks for the excellent care that Peter received at Wellington Park Care Centre in Burlington as he struggled with the ravages of dementia. Although no memorial service is planned, condolences and tributes may be made on the Smith's Funeral Home website at www.smithsfh.com.
