Obituary for Peter Dennett

DENNETT, Peter Bruce

Peter passed away peacefully in Grimsby, on Sunday, March 14th, 2021 at the age of 73. Beloved husband of ‘the old redhead’, Anne (nee Hawson), for over 51 years. Father and best friend to his ‘number one son’ Andrew (Aisling), and his ‘Chickpea’, Robyn Gladstone (Andrew). Worshipped as ‘the coolest Poppy ever’ by Edward, and beloved Papa to his two granddaughters, The Bean (Caitlyn) and Peanut (Carleigh). Loved big brother to Kathy Wheat (Tom), and predeceased by his parents Ted and Audrey. Peter was a 52 year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, which outside of his family was his passion. He could sing all four parts, he was a master woodshedder, and he always enjoyed coaching, teaching, and mentoring barbershoppers new and old. He was a champion quartet singer with the 1980 Ontario Champions, The Halton County Road Show. He was also a chorus champion with the Burlington Roadshow Chorus, and he represented Ontario internationally with The Toronto Northern Lights and The MIGHTY Harbourtown Sound. Peter was a true renaissance man, spending his working life as a forklift safety trainer, manager, management consultant, and construction millwright. He was also a Reiki Master and counsellor to cancer survivors. In retirement, when not singing he enjoyed making sawdust out in his shop. Thank you to the medical staff at Hamilton General Hospital and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for their humanity and compassion towards Peter, and their humour and kindness to his family. Peter loved being the centre of attention, so a small, Covid-friendly gathering just won’t do. We will be having a Celebration of Life at Harmony Ranch in the coming months, full of laughter and song. For those who wish to make a donation, please do so in Peter’s memory to Sing Canada Harmony. www.singcanadaharmony.ca
