Suddenly, with his family by his side, Paul Boucher passed away at the age of 61, on March 27th at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. He was a loving husband to Laurel (nee Wharton) for over 37 years and devoted father to his sons Andrew (Desiree) and Michael (Ellie Poirier). Paul is survived by his parents Alcide and Julie Boucher and by his siblings Marianne Boucher (Tim Maeba) and Mark Boucher (Julie). He was son-in-law to Ross and Joyce Wharton, brother-in-law to Janice (Greg) Kariatsumari and to David (Denise) Wharton. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews; Matthew, Steven, Katie, Sienna, Cody, Sara and Saskia.
Paul was born in 1960 in Kirkland Lake, but he grew up in Burlington, Ontario.
Graduating from Burlington Central High School in 1979 he excelled in academics and sports and most importantly, met the love of his life, Laurel. After high school Paul and Laurel maintained a long distance relationship while he obtained a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan. He made many lasting friendships during his university days, particularly within his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha.
In 1994 Paul returned to Michigan to work in the auto manufacturing industry, but this time bringing his wife, Laurel, and his two sons, Andrew and Mike. While in Michigan, Paul held supervisory and management roles and eventually became President of Chelsea Industries before returning to Burlington in 2003 to enter the consulting world with Deloitte and finally as a partner at BDO.
While Paul excelled at work and was highly respected for his strong leadership qualities, his real passion was for his family, his many friends both from Canada and the USA, his adoring cat, Simba and his treasured cottage on Neighick Lake. He was an avid fisherman, a lover of all things wood; chopping, storing, building and burning it! His sharp wit, kind gestures and unwavering loyalty will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held in Paul’s honour at the Burlington Golf and Country Club on April 24th. Family and friends are invited to drop in anytime between 1 and 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
