Obituary for Nancy Barlow

Nancy/Mom left us peacefully on March 30, 2022, with family by her side. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 45 years, Andrew; daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) and Kathryn (Graham); granddaughters, Leah, Katelyn, and Piper; brother, Murray (Shirley), and sister, Paula, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends, including her cherished cousin Lyn. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law, Gail (Gary).

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the many wonderful caregivers she had over the years, particularly her dear friend, Ashley.

She was fearless, brilliant, strong, resourceful, fiercely independent, and an incredible role model. If you were lucky enough to be loved by her, she was the ultimate cheerleader. If you faced a challenge, she’d be the first to try to tackle it, spending hours - often in the middle of the night - researching a solution. In her own life, that same quality meant there was nothing she was unwilling to learn or try to fix, and no puzzle she couldn’t conquer. Although she excelled in computers and technology, what she enjoyed most was being outdoors. She was happiest spending time at the family cottage working away in the woods for hours on end with a freshly brewed “cuppa”.

Known for her feisty nature, quick wit, and wicked sense of humour (illustrated by the entirely inappropriate ugly Christmas sweaters she purchased for her sons-in-law), she loved nothing more than making those around her laugh. She hated vegetables with the same ferocity she loved her family - and enjoyed telling servers she wouldn’t cry if they fell off her plate on the way to the table, or referring to anything green as “garbage soup”. She always, always, kept us laughing!

She will be missed more than any words could express.

There will be a small private family celebration at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
