Obituary for Mary Therese Curran (O'Reilly)

Mary Therese Curran (nee O’Reilly) February 15, 2021 died peacefully in Burlington, ON at the age of 99. Mary was born and raised in Australia. Of Irish heritage, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne and became a Journalist. She was brave enough to venture to Canada by ship as a single woman in her 20’s and worked in the press office at the Australian High Commission in Ottawa. Not long after, she met our dad, Dr. Daniel Curran. They fell in love, married and raised a family – she never lost her interest in journalism but it took a back seat to motherhood and family life - her writing continued part time in poetry and articles of Irish history and antiquity. Mary will be remembered for her kind nature and sweet smile. She will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Mary-Pat (David Salvian), Nora (Daniel Curran-Blaney) and Ann (d. Rick Hanchar). She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Morgan, Caitlin, Chase and Curran and great grandchildren, Jack, Benjamin, Samuel, Maxwell and Finn. We would like to thank everyone at Martha’s Landing for the 19 years of good memories and the wonderful care they provided for Mom. As well as the Joseph Brant Hospital and Chartwell Brant Centre for the safe and compassionate palliative care. Tradition and style were important to Mom. We are sad that her funeral will be very small due to Covid-19 restrictions. So, put on your pearls and cashmere sweater and toast her with your best china or Waterford Crystal. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
