It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of our beloved mom and grandma, Mary Costello on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 88 years of age. She leaves behind her daughter and best friend, Brenda, her sons, Brian (Sue) and Paul and her adored grandchildren, Ryan (Sloba), Brandon (Christine), Codi (Shawn) and Brittany (Mike). Mom was predeceased by her husband of over 66 years, Guy (February 14, 2018), her parents, John and Martha Hodson (Gardner) and her brother Richard Hodson (Helen). She also leaves behind many family members in Canada and England. Mom will be deeply missed by her good friend Shirley Katalinsky. Special thanks to Toni Costello who provided love and care to Mom over the years. Our gratitude is extended to the various Bayshore PSWs as well as Cynthia and Diana who allowed Mom to spend her last two years in the comfort of her own home. Mom was born in Hamilton on January 24, 1931 and was an east-end girl at heart having spent her formative years growing up on Cope Street. She attended Fairfield and Ballard Elementary Schools as well as Central (Tech) Collegiate. She worked as one of Alice’s girls at the Sear’s Centre Mall Snack Bar where she made many close friends. She was an animal lover who had her share of fur babies over the years. She was an excellent baker and cook who put together many a delicious meal. Mom loved reading, travelling to Florida and her two favourite sports teams, the Blue Jays and TiCats. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Sunday, October 27 from 3-7 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday, October 28 at 10 a.m. Interment Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Stoney Creek, followed by a reception at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The Good Shepherd or the Hamilton SPCA are appreciated.
