Obituary for Mary Ann Podetz (Scullion)

Podetz, Mary Ann (nee Scullion)-It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Podetz at Joseph Brant Hospital on February 28th, just one day shy of her 71st birthday. Mary Ann will now be reunited with her adoring husband and the love of her life, Norris. Loving mother to Nicholas (Lisa) and Kathleen (Ian). Devoted grandmother to Julia, Keira, Ruby and Rhys. Beloved sister to Patsy and the late Sean Scullion, and sister-in-law to Donna, Lori, Stephen, Lisa and the late Brenda. Mary Ann will be missed by many relatives and friends in Canada, Ireland and England. She immigrated to Canada as a teenager and never lost her Irish accent or sense of humour. She loved to sing, dance, tell stories, watch classic movies and bake with her grandchildren. She lit up every room she entered. She was a faithful member of the Catholic community in Hamilton and spent many years giving her time to the Catholic Women’s League. No one spread more love in one lifetime. The Podetz and Mann families would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the 4S100 Intensive Care Unit at Joseph Brant Hospital for their incredible care and compassion. The families would also like to thank the staff at Park Avenue Retirement Home for making Mary Ann feel like part of their family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Joseph Brant Hospital would be sincerely appreciated. Visitation will take place at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street, Burlington on Monday, March 6th from 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass to take place on Tuesday, March 7th at 10:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Parish (416 Mohawk Road East, Hamilton) with private burial at Woodlands Cemetery to follow. May the winds of Heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear how much we love and miss you, and wish that you were here.
