Obituary for Marion May Bourne (Booth)

BOURNE, Marion May
January 1, 1935 – June 19, 2023

It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marion on June 19,
2023 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Colin for over 62 years, devoted mother to Deborah
El-Beheiry, Greg Bourne, and Sharon Stewart (Eric), and cherished grandmother to
Valentine and Tarek El-Beheiry and Lindsay and Alyssa Stewart. Marion will be dearly
missed by her siblings Cecil, Edna, Irene and Joan, and her numerous nieces, nephews,
and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Albert and Hilda Booth, and her brothers
Edward and Leslie.

From her early years, Marion always led her life with determination and focus. Together with
Colin, their family immigrated to Canada in 1979. She had a successful career in insurance
that saw her working in Cape Town, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and several businesses in
Ontario. Marion’s family marvelled at her ability to maintain a full-time career while still
getting a home-cooked dinner on the table each night. She often balanced running a
household, working a job, while taking courses and upgrading skills—and she did it all
diligently, making it look easy. She loved seaside holidays and treasured life’s small
wonders–a flower, a fox sleeping at the bottom of the garden. She will especially be
remembered for her loyal devotion to her family.

Her siblings remember her as a fun-loving but very caring elder sister, with a wonderful
sense of humour; loved dancing and music; spent wonderful moments on family picnics on
the beach while she lived in Cape Town in the 1950s and was always surrounded by many
friends due to her gracious and affectionate manner, by which she will always be
remembered.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place. At a later date, Marion’s ashes will return home to South Africa where she’ll be scattered in the place she held so dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated by Marion’s family.
