It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Marilyn Christine Gillespie (nee Dowkes). Marilyn was born on August 21, 1946. Our beautiful mom passed away peacefully on September 18th in the company of her loving husband Don. She fought a courageous 10-year battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Isabelle. Marilyn is survived by her husband Don, her son David (Michelle), daughter Kelly (Steve), her grandchildren Brayden, Avery, Liam and Matthew, her siblings Jeanette, John and Robert, and her cousin Bill. Her time as a teacher and caregiver will forever be her legacy. Marilyn touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness and generosity. She lived for her family and took great joy in helping others. She found beauty in life’s small pleasures and saw the good in everyone and everything. She was our rock; our heart and soul. Special thanks to the staff at Wyndham Manor Long Term Care facility for their years of care and kindness as well as the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital palliative care staff. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Due to current circumstances and for everyone’s safety, we will postpone formal services until an appropriate time in the future.
