It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Marilyn Christine Gillespie (nee Dowkes). Marilyn was born on August 21, 1946. Our beautiful mom passed away peacefully on September 18th in the company of her loving husband Don. She fought a courageous 10-year battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Isabelle. Marilyn is survived by her husband Don, her son David (Michelle), daughter Kelly (Steve), her grandchildren Brayden, Avery, Liam and Matthew, her siblings Jeanette, John and Robert, and her cousin Bill. Her time as a teacher and caregiver will forever be her legacy. Marilyn touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness and generosity. She lived for her family and took great joy in helping others. She found beauty in life’s small pleasures and saw the good in everyone and everything. She was our rock; our heart and soul. Special thanks to the staff at Wyndham Manor Long Term Care facility for their years of care and kindness as well as the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital palliative care staff. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Due to current circumstances and for everyone’s safety, we will postpone formal services until an appropriate time in the future.

Don, Kelly and David, My thoughts are with you and your families. I wish we could be together to share celebrate the life of such an amazing woman. Hopefully this will be possible in the spring.

Marilyn was such a warm and giving soul. I have so many fond memories of Dowkes family gatherings and Aunt Marilyn's smile figures large in these memories. Aunt Marilyn made us all feel special. Much Love.

Dear David and Kelly, Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of your precious Mom. The devotion she had for you and your Dad was immeasurable and we know that you returned it in full. I remember learning that she kept a daily diary for both of you that went well into your teens. I can’t think of a more precious testament to the love she had for you. You and your Dad are in our thoughts. The Davies Family

As Marilyn and Dons next door neighbours in Oakville the past several years we got to know her beautiful smile and her kind ways. She wasn’t always able to verbalize her thoughts in recent years but we could see clearly the person she was. A heart of gold, a kind and caring mother, grandmother and wife and a lover of people in general and animals. Her smile would light up a room. We are very sorry for your loss and we know she will be greatly missed. Henry and Kathy Gallant

How sad we are to hear of your beautiful mother's passing! She was so central to our family when we were young and starting out. She was the reason I could leave our three little ones Steven, Michael and Mary-Frances, to begin a whole new career. Her energy, laughter, creativity and genuine interest for all those in her care will never be forgotten! Know that you're all in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
