Obituary for Marilyn Margaret Bittner (Totten)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Marilyn Bittner passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on July 14, 2021.

Wife of the late Bill Bittner, loving mother of William Bittner (Terri) of Appleton, Wisconsin and Sue DePaul (Ray) of Calgary, Alberta. She is the loving grandmother of Chris (Leah Pollock), Miles (Nicole Andrejek), Jessica, and Nick and great-granddaughter June. Marilyn is the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Totten and sister to Raymond Totten (Cindy) of Redlands, California. Predeceased by her brothers Charles, William and sisters Mary and Virginia.
Shortly after graduating from Sacred Heart High School, Marilyn entered the convent, discerning to become a nun. However, as time went on, she realized her true calling was to marry the man she loved. Bill and Marilyn were joined in holy matrimony on March 3, 1962. In 1970 Bill’s job transferred the family to Burlington, the place Marilyn has called home ever since. She fell in love with Canada and later became a dual citizen.

She was a very loving, generous friend to many, a successful real estate agent, avid tennis player, and first president of the Millcroft Ladies Golf section. To this day, she is fondly remembered for her four hole-in-ones she amassed during her time at Millcroft Golf Club. Marilyn was a member of the Roseland Park Country Club and an active parishioner of St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish for over 50 years. She also volunteered at Joseph Brant Hospital for over 10 years. She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday July 21 at 10:30am at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish, 4072 New Street, Burlington, ON. The family will greet visitors at the church entrance one hour prior to and immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Marilyn’s memory to St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish to support the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry
