Obituary for Margaret Stewart (Crooks)

Margaret Stewart (Crooks)
Stewart (nee Crooks), Anna Margaret
(April 16, 1923 - November 26, 2017)

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Stewart announce her passing on November 26 at Creek Way Village in Burlington at the age of 94. Predeceased on November 18, 2010 by her loving husband of 64 years, Gaye, she will be forever loved and missed by her son Ian and his wife Cindy of Burlington and son Jim of White Rock B.C and by her brother Dr. John Crooks (Barbara) of Thunder Bay. Nan will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Matthew (Dana) and Brian (Rachel) and great granddaughter Evan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews across the country. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay), Margaret was the only daughter of the late Dorothy and Herbert Crooks and sister to the late Jamie, Bill and George Crooks. Upon completing her schooling Margaret worked in her father's drug store and for the Defence Department in Ottawa during World War II. After the war she married NHL star Gaye Stewart and spent more than a decade as a home maker with winters in Toronto, Chicago, New York, Detroit and Fort Erie and summers in Thunder Bay, all while raising two sons. Upon Gaye's retirement from hockey and after brief stays in Oakville and North Bay, the family settled in Burlington. Margaret had a full life with family and friends and engaged in volunteer work as well as her passion for golf. Margaret and Gaye were long time members of The Burlington Golf and Country Club. Cremation has taken place. As per her wishes no service will be held. A special thanks to the staff at Creek Way Village for their care and compassion. If desired memorial donations to the JBMH Foundation or a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
