Obituary for Mahmonir Kaveh

Orange blossoms caress the air
And our beautiful Mahmonir flies away

Mahmonir Kaveh was a “Shining Moon”, caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was liberated from suffering on July 31, 2022 at the age of 73, a few short months after she was diagnosed with an aggressive pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

She was born to Masoumeh Moharrer and Valiollah Kaveh on July 1, 1949; a family with big hearts to love and give, ears for music, and green thumbs to grow. After graduating from high school and receiving a diploma in accounting, she started her career as an accountant in the Ministry of Finance in Tehran, Iran.

She met her husband, Dr. Manouchehr Agahi, in a gathering arranged to welcome Manouchehr’s return to Iran after completing his medical degree in Germany. Their love story began when Manouchehr gave the largest Chrysanthemum flower to her in that gathering. They married in 1973 and moved to Isfahan, known for its Persian architecture, history, and the beautiful Zayanderud (“life-giver” river), to start their life together. Together, they had three children: Mania, Maryam, and Mandana (the eternal companion).

After her second daughter was born, she sacrificed her career to be a work-at-home mom for which the contributing author is grateful and indebted.

Mahmonir loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and guests prepared with her secret ingredient, touch of endless love, and low-temperature patient cooking. The children including her daughter’s friends, nieces and nephews gathered around the table or by the bon-fire and enjoyed the festivities. It always warmed her heart and theirs.

Mahmonir loved springs when the air was filled with the fragrance of orange blossoms and narcissus. She enjoyed traditional Persian music and old school songs of her time and singing them as a hobby. Although she was shy to sing in public, thanks to her encouraging daughter Mania who never stopped pushing her to sing and perform every opportunity she had, Mahmonir was able to share her comforting voice with her loved ones.

She moved to Kingston, ON, in 2010 and chose the beautiful Canada as her second home where she started her Canadian adventures, Eh. She loved the English language classes she took in Kingston and Toronto and was always fond and thankful of her great teachers and people she met.

She travelled around the world to Germany, England, Thailand, Australia, US, Russia, and Turkey where she explored unforgettable adventures, sceneries, food, and good company.

Mahmonir was the one remembering everyone’s birthdays and made the birthday announcements and sent reminders in advance. She had a beautiful smile and was a model of love, compassion and generosity. She was always there for those who were in need and was content with her space and sharing it with others. She left great memories in the hearts of everyone she touched.

Mahmonir spent her last days in the Princess Margaret Hospital in the hands of a caring team of professional angels who made every effort ensuring her remaining days were as pain free as possible.

Mahmonir is survived by her husband, Manouchehr Agahi; three daughters, Mania, Maryam, and Mandana (the eternal companion); two sisters, Tourandokht and Irandokht; two brothers, Fariborz (Ebi) and Bahram; and eleven nieces and nephews, Maryam, Alireza, Farzaneh, Khosro, Nazanin, Makan, Mehdi, Reza, Katayoon, Farhad, and Farzin. She was predeceased by siblings Faramarz (Esi) and Zahra (Zari).

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on August 5, 2022 at the Smith’s Funeral Home in Burlington, ON.

If you would like, wear by adding an optional piece of yellow that was Mahmonir’s favorite color.
