Obituary for Louis Francis Godry

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Francis Godry on December 1, 2022, just over 8 months after his darling wife, Ann.

Lou enjoyed nearly 61 years of marriage with the love of his life, Ann. He was the beloved Dad of John (Anita) and Louis (Jennifer). Lou was the adoring Grandpa to Annalyn, Hayden and Moyrah. He will be missed also by many nieces, nephews, neighbours, and friends.

Lou was born April 26, 1934 in Port Colborne, Wainfleet township, the youngest of three boys to Louis and Mary. Lou returned to his place of birth only 3 weeks ago to visit the final resting place of a baby brother who was born before him and shared the same first name. He also visited the former family farm and drove by another former home in town, his elementary school, and stopped for lunch at Longpoint Beach on Lake Erie. During this visit, Lou shared many fond memories of his youth. Lou was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph (Joe) (2015) and Louis Jr. (1933).

In 1957, Lou met the love of his life, Ann. They married in 1961 and enjoyed life with two incredible sons and their families. Ann and Lou shared many wonderful adventures. For their 25th Wedding Anniversary, they celebrated with a trip to Hawaii. After that trip, they caught the travel bug and visited many cities around the world over the following 15 years. They also enjoyed sharing their lives with many pets over the years. Together, Lou and Ann were incredible examples of commitment, devotion, and positivity. Lou was an exceptional caregiver to Ann. There was no sacrifice he would not make for her, even though his own body was falling apart. Those were tough years but they endured them with grace, never forgetting to smile and laugh often.

When Ann passed away a short eight months ago, Lou never gave up. It would have been very easy to do. He kept a positive and upbeat approach to the time that he had left. He believed he would be joining his beloved Ann in the next stage of life‘s journey. Embracing his faith gave him peace and hope.

We sincerely thank all of the nurses and doctors who cared for Lou during his lifetime and during his final days. Their commitment and care are appreciated more than words can say.

Lou’s was a life well lived. Lou and Ann will be deeply missed; however, they will be loved and remembered every day.

“May songs of the angels welcome you and guide you along your way.”--Bob Dufford
