Obituary for Kevin Christopher Pearce

PEARCE, Kevin Christopher -

After a lengthy struggle with severe mental illness, Kevin tragically took his own life, in Burlington, on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the age of 43. He is the beloved oldest son of Jan and Stan Pearce. Cherished brother of Craig (Tracy) and Kyle Pearce. Special Uncle to Annie Pearce. Dear nephew of Rosemary (Steve) Savage, Greg (JoAnne) Clark and Nancy Beernaerts. Kevin will be sadly missed by his cousins and many friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents; Doris and Howard Clark, Frances and John Pearce.

Kevin was a former member of the Joseph Brant Hospital Mental Health and Addictions Community Advisory Committee. He was a volunteer at the Hospital and also worked part-time at Holland Park Garden Centre before it closed. More recently Kevin resumed writing poetry. In November he read some of his poems at “Artrageous” at the Art Gallery of Burlington, an event to promote mental health in the community. Kevin also stepped up to the “Open Mic” to read his poetry at Summit Housing and Outreach Programs just last week. His poetry is the legacy he leaves behind for his family and friends. Special thank you to Dr. Lori Chalklin, and JBH Mental Health Services for their attentive care.

Private Cremation will take place. Visitation for friends and family will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, Burlington, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 6-9 p.m. A Service to celebrate Kevin’s life will be held at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00am, with Reception to follow.
