Obituary for Joyce Marilyn Weston (Heppner)

WESTON, Joyce
It is with great sadness, joy and peace we announce the arrival of Joyce Marilyn Weston (nee Heppner) to Heaven. The reunion began Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Ralph Weston for 69 years. Loving mother of Rebecca (Stu) Dall, Deborah (Jim) McGee and Michael (Denise) Weston. Special grandmother of eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Patricia (Art) Kalle and Ron (Maureen Heppner), both of Albany, New York.
Joyce, born September 1, 1934 in Buffalo, New York, became a Canadian citizen in 1967. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Burlington for 56 years; 23 as the church secretary. She was an active member in the Ladies Aid and treasurer of the W.M.S. Margaret Taylor Evening Auxiliary. Joyce’s ministry was the Card Ministry, mailing many, many cards of encouragement, celebration and sympathy for over 25 years, along with quarterly, encouraging newsletters to shut-ins. She was lovingly and affectionately known as the “Card Lady” and touched many lives with her deep caring and remembrance.
Joyce enjoyed knitting, camping, reading (especially James Paterson’s Women’s Murder Club) and was a wonderful hostess and cook. Family and friends loved her amazing shortbread cookies, decadent chocolate and maple fudge (always found at the church bazaar) and her nuts and bolts. She will always be with us as we continue to make those special treats. Her children and grandchildren will truly miss the cards she sent for every occasion, both big and small.
Visitation will be held at Smiths Funeral Home (1167 Guelph Line, Burlington) on Friday, October 13 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service at Knox Presbyterian Church (461 Elizabeth St, Burlington) on Saturday, October 14 at 1 p.m.
For those who wish, donations can be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, 461 Elizabeth St. Burlington, ON or a charity of your choice.
