Obituary for Joy Lloyd

Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday May 29, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Derrick Lloyd. Will be forever missed and fondly remembered by her many friends and loved ones.

Joy was born in Farnborough, England and immigrated to Canada in the early 50’s with her husband Derrick, settling in Hamilton before moving to Burlington. For many years Joy was a member of the Burlington Runners Club and one of the original members of the Burlington YMCA, where she volunteered teaching exercise classes, lifeguarding and helping out wherever she was needed. Joy was a long-time member of St Christopher’s Anglican Church, where she also enjoyed volunteering her time.

The love of her garden and the wildlife has been a significant part of Joy’s life. Her greatest “joy” was feeding the many birds and squirrels who came to her backyard to visit.

Born under the sign of Aquarius, the water bearer, Joy has always had a connection with the water, living by the shore of Lake Ontario, spending time in Siesta Key, Florida, and at her apartment on the Thames River in Eton, England. Joy has continued to follow the Royal Family and became a friend of St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle, where she attended many services at the Chapel.

Joy had a long and rich life and her passion for travelling took her to many places all over the world.

A special thank you to Dr Rogers, Dr Zhao and Joy’s wonderful caregivers, Alicia, Lee and Kelly for their compassionate care and always bringing a smile to Joy’s face.

As per Joy’s wishes cremation has taken place. If desired, donations may be made in Joy’s memory to the Burlington Humane Society, Burlington Animal Shelter or St Christopher’s Anglican Church in Burlington.
