Obituary

SMITH, John Edward

Passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Joan Smith (Rousby). Loving father of Bill Smith (Debbie), Sue Youmans (Blair), Terry Smith (Francine Landry) and Kathy Taylor (Mike). Proud granddad of Matthew (Afton), Brittany, Meghan, Brandon, Whitney (Cameron), Joel (Katie), Scott, Ryan and Kelly. Cherished great-granddad of Everly and Gabriel.

John was born in Toronto in June 1932. He was raised and nurtured by the loving Finnigan family. While working full time and raising four children, John received his CPA degree from the University of Toronto where he went on to have a successful business career both in the United States and Canada providing him with opportunities to travel the world. He was happily married to Joan, the love of his life, for 66 years.

John had a passion for reading, history, politics and travelling. He had a long and full retirement doing what he most enjoyed: spending time with family, travel, theatre, music, and wintering at their home in Stuart, Florida. John was a devoted husband, loving father and grateful grandad and great grandad. He was a gentle giant whose love for family brought him some of his greatest joys in life. We will miss his infectious smile and hearty laugh, his kind and compassionate spirit, and we will be forever grateful that he was in our life. He will remain forever in our hearts.
