Obituary for John Charles Arthur McMahon

Much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at Pioneer Elder Care on May 24, 2019 at the age of 97 years. He is survived by his devoted family: daughters Joanne (Gerry Varricchio) and Lisa Kordiaka (Frank), grandsons Jacob Ahee (Julia Porter), Benjamin Ahee (Emilie Moffat), and Anthony Kordyjaka (Marla), great-grandchildren Jack Ahee, and Quinn and Braiden Kordyjaka, younger brothers Harry and Phillip McMahon, brother-in-law Ted Clarke (Rita) and much loved nieces, Sandy McMahon (Bill), and Chris Gilder (Tom) and their families, nephews, George Clarke, Andrew Clarke (Sarah), Jeff Clarke (Jan) and their families. John was predeceased by his adored wife of 67 years Lucy Mary McMahon (nee Clarke), siblings Eric McMahon, Ann Keen and Doreen Buchanan, nephew Stephen, and much esteemed elder brother-in-law Tom Clarke. Special thanks to Pioneer Elder Care and all of its wonderful nurses and caregivers who work tirelessly to provide the best possible quality of life for the elderly suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s, in a home-like environment. The quality of care is superb, and their compassion is indescribable. We know they will miss John as part of their family, the way we will miss him as the patriarch of ours. Pursuant to John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will host a memorial to John in the near future and will contact family, friends, and colleagues with details of same. The family has requested that no flowers be sent, but has selected the Alzheimer Society Canada or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind for memorial contributions.
