Obituary for John Lynch

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of John Lynch on March 19, 2023 in Burlington, Ontario at the age of 86.

John is survived by his adoring wife Ellen of 62 years. He was the beloved father of Michael (Mary), Kathleen (Michael) and John (MaryBeth). He spoke with pride of his wonderful grandchildren: Scott, Sarah (Timothy), Grant, Bruce, Ellen, Matthew, Theresa, Caitlyn (Jesse), Joshua and Kristin. He cherished the time he spent most recently with his young great grandchildren Josie, Reijer and Rowan.

John was born in Glasgow, Scotland. As a teenager, he excelled at the competitive sport of weightlifting, receiving several accolades. He also adored his older brother Francis and their many cycling journeys over the rugged landscape of Scotland.

His passion for adventure continued once happily married with children. Cross country camping trips quickly became the norm.

After retiring from Sun-Canadian Pipe Line Company Limited as Manager, Maintenance and Loss Control, after 34 years of service beginning as a Draftsman, John and Ellen immediately set off on several European holidays, often joining friends along the way. Soon their days were filled with the many activities of their grandchildren, bridge games with friends, music at the TSO, plays at the Shaw Festival and annual trips in early Spring to warmer climates to continue his love of cycling.

Faith was an important aspect of John’s life and it continued to give him strength until the end. May he now rest in peace.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church (2265 Headon Road, Burlington, ON) Tuesday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow. For those who wish to view the service remotely, a livestream link is available here: Livestream Link

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
