WILKIE, John Douglas “Grant”

Passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Wednesday, July 27th 2022, at the age of 92, with Pamela and Karen at his side. Loving husband of the late Betty Mae Wilkie; dear father of Pamela, Karen (late Bruce) and Richard (Dagmar); proud grandfather of Heather, Nicole, Shannon, Amanda and Christine; and his first great grandchild Brooklyn.

He was an avid canoeist, hiker, skier, scuba diver and world traveller.

Grant was a fixture in downtown Hamilton for 30 years as co-owner and Class A mechanic at Hamilton Transmission Service.

Grant touched so many lives and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

For those who wish, memorial donations in Grant’s honour to a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

Crossing the Bar by Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
