Obituary for Joan Susan Newton (McLauchlan)

Joan Susan Newton, Age 86 passed away peacefully February 24, 2021.

Joan was born and raised in Ayrshire, Scotland. At the age of 17 she came to Toronto Canada where her sister Marie was residing. At her work, her co-workers introduced Joan to Bob Newton. They quickly fell in love and were married in 1954. They enjoyed 51 wonderful years together until Bob’s passing in 2005. Later in life she met Bob Lister who was very kind and supportive of her especially considering that before long she began to show signs of dementia.

Those that knew Joan will remember her sense of humour, her kindness and compassion for others, her sense of adventure, her gentle disposition, her generosity, her style and “presentation” and mostly her love of family and friends.

Joan is survived by her son Steve and his wife Jacque, daughter Sue and her husband Fred Poulter, her grandson’s Tyler and Bobby Poulter, Andrew and Wesley Newton. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Alec McLellan and sister-in-law Christine McLauchlan. She is predeceased by her husband Bob Newton, grandson Scott Poulter, sister Marie McLellan, brother Ian McLauchlan, parents John and Elizabeth McLauchlan and friend Bob Lister.
All of those she loved and touched deeply.

We’d like to thank all the special caregivers, nurses at Emma’s East, and her Doctor Dr. Jerome for all the attention, love and respect they showed Joan through the years she resided at Tansley Woods.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
