Obituary for Joan Luella Fossen (Wilson)

Joan Luella Fossen (nee Wilson)

The Fossen family is sad to report the loss of Joan Luella Fossen (nee Wilson), who passed away in the early hours of Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, just a couple of weeks shy of her 80th birthday. Loving wife of almost 57 years to William Fossen. Proud mother of Eric (Arlene) Fossen, Pamela Fossen, and Sandra (Brett) Konyu, and grandmother of Benjamin, Nathan and Zoe. Pre-deceased by parents Clyde and Nellie (nee Mitchell) Wilson and brother Gary.

Joan was born in Calgary on April 21, 1941, and grew up around Rimbey AB and Blaine, Washington. She was educated at the University of Alberta and spent a couple of years teaching in Ponoka AB before leaving to raise a family. She was a lifetime member of Joseph Brant Hospital’s auxiliary, volunteering her time there for over 15 years, and also volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program through the Red Cross. Joan was a long-time member of Walton United Church in Bronte. She was an avid bridge player, talented at crocheting, sang in numerous church choirs, and most enjoyed spending time with her family. Despite many health and mobility challenges, Joan had a good sense of humour and maintained a positive, hopeful outlook.

Much gratitude to the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness. Special thanks to Dr. Naidoo and Dr. Sapir, and to the wonderful staff at the Burlington Dialysis Centre for their friendship and excellent care.

A small family service is planned, with a Celebration of Life anticipated to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any donations should be directed to Joseph Brant Hospital or Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
