1930-2019
Passed away peacefully in Burlington on July 1, 2019. Predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Jim Craven (2013). Survived by a family she loved with all her heart. Children, Deb Millard (Greg), Susan Craven (Ben Sproule), Mary Ellen Shields (Jim) Carolyn Craven (Scott Sincerbox) and 9 grandchildren, Jeff Millard (Katie), Kate Walton (Ryan), Ally Greenspan (Jared), Maggie Bilenki (Paul), Zachary Shields, Megan Shields (Luc Jeanneau), Emma, Chloe and Sam Sincerbox and 7 great-grandchildren, Violet and Victoria Millard, Lucy and Greta Greenspan, Miller and Pearl Walton and Sophie Shields Jeanneau. Joan will be dearly missed by her sister and best friend Lois Wright. Joan was born and raised in Hamilton where she attended Loretto Academy. She met the love of her life, Jim, in high school. She started her career at the Steel Company of Canada as a comptometer operator before retiring to raise her children. She considered raising her four daughters her biggest accomplishment and adored her grandchildren. She had a beautiful singing voice and music was always a huge part of her life. You could tell if she was happy or sad by the music that was playing loudly in her spotless home. Mom was proud of her Irish Catholics roots. Mom had a great sense of humour and was often the life of the party. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish, 4072 New Street, Burlington, ON, where Joan and Jim were founding members. A brief reception will be held in the foyer followed by a private interment. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to The Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
