Obituary for Jane Lucy Davis (Davis)

It is with deep sadness and great love that we mourn the passing of Jane Davis.  Jane passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Sunday, July 17th, 2022, at the age of 63, with family and best friends by her side. Loving spouse of Patrick McCourt for over 15 years; beloved mother of Taylor (Matt) and caring step-Jane to Daniel and Kevin McCourt; dear sister to Stephen (Karen) and Christopher (Cindy) and aunt to Will, Hailey, Jessica, Lindsay and Jack.  She was always Auntie Jane to her extended Gray family and will forever be lifelong friends to Pitter Shaw (Kelly) and Chris Mote (Kelly).

While Jane’s life was often difficult, battling arthritis from a young age, her determination not to be slowed down by her arthritis was common knowledge.  Her ability and passion to take on a vast array of projects and follow them through to completion was astounding.  Not just her own projects but those of her friends as well. She was a doer, not a complainer. Jane’s loyalty, supportiveness, and dependability to her friends and family is not replaceable and will leave a large void in many of our lives.

Jane’s passion and flair for gardening was well known.  Jane’s gardens both at home and at the cottage were always beautifully maintained. She was always willing to lend her expertise, both with guidance and labor, to friends and family.  Her holiday decorating skills were equal to her gardening skills. Each holiday throughout the year brought out her creativity, but Christmas was a special time of year where her star would shine the brightest.  Bows, garlands, and five Christmas trees would brighten both the home and cottage for enjoyment indoors, while lights, bows, and urns would brighten the outdoors for her to share her passion with the world.

Jane’s tenacity to either help organize social events, or in most cases take over, always added to making a fun time ever better.  Jane could always manage to get a plan in place to coordinate people and activities.  Mix in a few pranks and hijinks which produced a lot of very memorable evenings.

The cottage quickly became Jane’s happy place, with days of kayaking, swimming, boating and an endless list of projects to keep her occupied. Evenings with a fire, watching thunderstorms, star gazing and trying to see shooting stars became synonymous with her peaceful joy. She was truly the brightest shooting star of them all and personally we will never look at the sky the same way again.

As per Jane’s wishes, cremation will take place, to be followed by a private family funeral. A Celebration of Life for extended family and friends will take place, with time, date, and location to be confirmed. For those that wish, donations in Jane’s honour can be made to the Arthritis Society through www.arthritis.ca.

Special thanks to the amazing medical team at Joseph Brant ICU, whose skill and compassion are without comparison.  Also, to Jane’s Army for their constant support and positive energy throughout this journey.
