POPPE, Jackie (nee Cumberland)
Passed peacefully after a short illness at Joseph Brant Hospital on Tuesday, February 14th 2023 at the age of 86. Loving wife of the late Ronald Poppe (d. 2005); beloved mother of Glen Poppe (Barb) and Russ Poppe (Marianne); and proud grandmother of Ron, Mike, Stephanie (Kolby Walker), Samantha (Shawn Guitar) and Lescia (Nick Horvath). Loving Great Grandmother of Carter, Nova, Grayson, Morgan and Rylee. Predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Ethyl Cumberland as well as her three sisters Aileen Killin, Jean Fleming and Helen Jamieson. Survived by her sister in law Eileen (Al Tremills)
The family would like to thank the staff at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for the warm and kind care during her illness.
Jackie was a long-time teacher with the Halton Board of Education (King Road PS, MM Robinson High and General Brock High. After retiring she travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America. She had a huge circle of friends through her many activities with Knox Presbyterian Church, Burlington Historical Society, Museums of Burlington, Burlington Amateur Radio Club and friends of Lois W.
Visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant St, Burlington on Monday, February 20th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. A Service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 461 Elizabeth St, Burlington on Tuesday, February 21st at 11:00am.
For those who wish, donations in Jackie’s honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
