Obituary for Jackie (Jack) Dale Alfred Waugh

With his daughters by his side, our father passed away peacefully Monday morning to join his mother Christine, father Frank, and Mary, the mother to his 4 children. “Grumpy” to some, “Grampa” to others, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Born in Hearst, Ontario the oldest of 9 siblings, and raised in Geraldton, Dad left home in 1953 at the age of 16 to join the military. He served in the Air Force for 28 years as an aero engine technician before joining the private sector. Dad enjoyed tinkering with engines and loved to spend his Saturdays watching Hockey Night in Canada. He was an avid reader of current events and kept his mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles until he was no longer able to see the words written on paper.

In his earlier years Dad was actively involved in the Church. He had a big heart; opening the door of our family’s home to people in need on more than one occasion. He helped who he could along his path and touched the lives of many people wherever he went.

Dad was an outspoken father and husband; you knew where you stood with him, yet might not have recognized the depth of his love. Dad was quick to forget and to forgive.

Dad battled and survived cancer for more than 10 years before succumbing to dementia without ever knowing the world around him had changed overnight.

Our family would like to thank everyone at Cama Woodlands Long Term Care Facility in Burlington for the wonderful kindness and care they showed our father during his final months.

Cremation will take place on Thursday April 2, 2020 and a private memorial will be arranged at a later time.

We miss you already Dad.
