Obituary

HOLDEN, Jack
Passed away suddenly at home, on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the age of 90. Dearly loved husband of June (nee Gallagher) for 59 years. Loved father of Craig (Geraldine) and Janice (David Riddles). Cherished grandpa of Michael and Amber (Cory Baird) and great-grandpa of Theodore and Henry. Dear brother of Sheila Adams (Desmond) of Oxford, England. Jack served in the British Army from 1946-1949 and was a retired long-time employee of Studebaker and Mack Truck. A true gentleman with never a bad word to say about anyone, Jack was kind and courteous to all and his generosity touched all those around him.

Special thanks to Drs. McWhirter and Greenspoon and the staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre. Thanks as well to friends and neighbours who offered support to Jack throughout his treatments. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. where Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at Funeral Home. Cremation to follow. For those who wish, donations in memory of Jack to Burlington Humane Society or Juravinski Cancer Centre would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

DAD
He never looks for praises
He’s never one to boast
He just goes on quietly working
for those he loves the most
His dreams are seldom spoken
His wants are very few
And most of the times his worries
Will go unspoken too
He’s there…. A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold to
In times of stress and strife
A true friend we can turn to
When times are good or bad
One of our greatest blessings,
The man that we call, Dad.

My fond memories of Jack are from us spending the same week of June at Evergreen Lodge on the Bruce Peninsula for over twenty-five years. He has been an important part of making those vacations so enjoyable. I was saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

I arrived at Mack Truck Canada in 1973. In my 14 + years I had the honour of meeting Mr. Jack Holden and as described by others always a smile a how are you today always. After leaving Mack because my wife Mary and I living close to Jack and his lovely wife June would bump into each other at the grocery store and catch up. For a number of years we would find each other on New street during the Burlington Santa Claus Parade. I mentioned to someone that if you looked in the dictionary under Gentleman his picture would be beside it. You will not be forgotten by those even outside your family. Keep and eye on your family Mr. Holden. My condolences to June and family.

Jack will always be remembered fondly by the Miller and Brownhill family. He was a great neighbour and along with June, a regular attendee at important milestone birthdays/anniversaries. A true gentleman, with a ready smile, gentle word, and always ready to provide a helping hand. You truly were one of a kind and will be sadly missed.

Jack was interviewed at the site of the former Studebaker plant in Hamilton when our chapter met for one last set of pictures. Here is a link to that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8baBIakUUOQ He had some keen insights about the factory.
